Acquiring his knowledge of smoking and curing fish from his father, our founder George "Jaffy" Lawrie formed the original family business of Lawrie & Sons in 1944 before passing on the craft to his sons who later built the smokehouse that we still use to this day. Now, Jaffy's grandson, Jeff, carries and upholds the secrets and processes which make the deliciously smoked fish that we're known for, whilst passing on his knowledge to his own children in preparation for the future.Learn more
All of our herring is from MSC certified sources, always those landed at ports as near to our smokehouse as possible.
Jaffy’s sons proudly built the brick kiln we use to this day. All our products are crafted by hand with a combination of hard work, the freshest sustainable Scottish seafood and the ever-present coastal wind to stoke the smouldering fires of our smokehouse. With many of our smoked foods having won great-taste awards, we always remain motivated to strive for higher levels of perfection so that you can enjoy our fish as much as we do.shop our fish
We use only the freshest stocks in order to produce a truly remarkable smoked product.
Right in the heart of Mallaig, you will find our speciality Seafood Deli, stocking a wide range of Scottish Speciality foods and gifts as well as our own smoked seafood products, from fish to shellfish, fresh to cooked.
Products are also vacuum packed, a great way to lock in the freshness and ensure tip top condition until you return home.
